Victorian Lava Stone Bacchante Cameo Brooch
ABOUT THIS BROOCH
This remarkable--and sizable--lava stone cameo, masterfully hand carved in high relief, depicts the proto-party girl Bacchante, the female follower of Bacchus (aka Dionysus), the god of wine and fertility. Her hair is symbolically adorned with grapes and grape leaves, and she is artfully framed with a lovely hand-engraved scroll design hand fabricated in warmly burnished 18K yellow gold. A superb and stunning mid-Victorian treasure, measuring an impressive 2 7/16 by 2 inches.
