Victorian Natural Pearl, Diamond and Demantoid Insect Pendant/Brooch
ABOUT THIS JEWELRY
About a century-and-a-half ago, an imaginative Victorian-era jeweler must have happened upon this unique and unusual, lustrous white and bizarrely textured freshwater pearl and thought, "Hmm.... let's make it into a bug!" Add a pair of sparkling European-cut diamond-set wings, a natural button pearl head, lime green demantoid garnet eyes, and voilà!-- a perfectly precious pet pest. Hand fabricated in 18K rosy-yellow gold. Total diamond weight, 1.00 carat. Circa 1890. 1 1/4 inch wingspan. Equipped with flip-up bail and 14K pin stem. The new adjustable chain measures 18 inches.
