Queen Victoria was fond of shell cameos and made wearing them very fashionable during the 19th century. A popular subject, as illustrated here, was the aristocratic Victorian woman carved in profile. Her superbly detailed romantic ringlets embue the coiffure style worn during the Victorian period. The cameo is framed in a 14 karat rosy yellow gold bezel mounting having a wide border engraved with flowers and extended scrolls. This piece measures over 2 inches in length and 1 3/4 inches in width and has both a vintage pin closure and collapsable pendant loop. The cameo is in excellent condition.
