Victorian White Lava Cameo Earrings

Everyone loves a souvenir--especially one from an exotic locale. Lava* cameos, originally sold near Pompeii so that visitors could commemorate their visit to the Pompeian ruins, were very popular during the Victorian era. These intriguing earrings feature two different lovely ladies, each crowned with a wreath of leaves, carved in striking high relief from white lava. Set in beautifully patinated bezels trimmed in twisted wire--the sculptural portraits suspend from graceful shepherd's hook backs. Hand fabricated in 18K gold. *The 'lava' from which these earrings were carved is actually a material called 'tuff,' a type of rock formed by volcanic ash ejected during an eruption. Fascinating.
