Mizpah is derived from the Hebrew “watchtower” and refers to a passage from Genesis in the Bible: ” And Mizpah; for he said, The Lord watch between me and thee when we are absent one from another”. The word Mizpah and sometimes the accompanying passage was engraved on mass-produced goldsilver or brass rings or brooches that were particularly popular during the Victorian era. Mizpah jewelry ranged from simple gold bands to more highly decorated items featuring such motifs as twin hearts, flowers, birds, and anchors.
